Asia Forestry Investment Fund

The Asia Forest Investment Fund (AFIF) offers international investors an opportunity to engage in sustainable forest management practices. Through the establishment of the fund, investors will be able to invest in ethically, socially responsible and financially attractive projects based around forestry investments which will include aspects of ecosystem service markets and credit establishment.

The AFIF shall concentrate on large and small-scale forestry investments in Asia-Pacific only. These investments shall have social components and the fund will pro actively promote and utilize all the concepts of criteria and indicators for Sustainable Forest Management (SFM).

The fund shall incorporates certification aspects into its development and implementation of the fund of which will include the rules and modalities of the Forestry Stewardship Council, the Smartwood Programme and the Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN).

Certification will also include as many local aspects and where possible, incorporate the local certification standard as the very minimum level of certification available (i.e. MTCC (Malaysia), LEI (Indonesia)).

The fund itself is structured as a stand-alone structure, which acts as the basis for specific project related investments. The investments will be activated through tranches and each tranche shall be project specific. The size of the tranche will depend directly upon the arrangements agreed upon with the project proponents.
